Autumn Fern-The Unfurling

I love my garden this time of year. All of the perennial plants are emerging from hibernation and growing to fill in the emptiness of the winter garden. This will be the 6th year that this particular garden has been maturing and is now just coming into its own.

Golden mushroom in the afternoon sun
by Skynnard on November 1, 2009 in Blog, Image Galleries with 4 CommentsToday was one of those glorious remaining Fall days here in Seattle. Warm enough to be outside in shirt sleeves and feel the sun on your face and soak up some of that vitamin C and D.
I decided to spend the afternoon in the garden tending to some much needed raking and weeding and that is where I discovered this magnificent mushroom. The light illuminating this enormous (about 7 inches across) specimen was a really great low Fall afternoon light, the type that creates dramatic side lighting.
I have no idea what this particular mushroom is but I really enjoyed photographing it with my macro lens.
