Brown Pelican Pod At Devil's Punchbowl

The Oregon Coast offers a diverse environment to explore and photograph. The beaches range from flat sandy beaches to inaccessible cliffs with spectacular views. I have been visiting this Central section of the coast for many years but haven’t been during the late Fall.  The weather reports indicated that there were 4 days of rain and wind, not quite what I was  hoping for.  As it turns out there were a couple of storms as well as many breaks in the weather with some pretty amazing light.

This pod of Brown Pelicans were observed resting on the rocks above Devil’s punchbowl and these characters provided me with some very fun subject matter.

Golden mushroom in the afternoon sun

by Skynnard on November 1, 2009 in Blog, Image Galleries with 4 Comments
Today was one of those glorious remaining Fall days here in Seattle.  Warm enough to be outside in shirt sleeves and feel the sun on your face and soak up some of that vitamin C and D.
I decided to spend the afternoon in the garden tending to some much needed raking and weeding and that is where I discovered this magnificent mushroom. The light illuminating this enormous (about 7 inches across) specimen was a really great low Fall afternoon light, the type that creates dramatic side lighting.
I have no idea what this particular mushroom is but I really enjoyed photographing it with my macro lens.

Blue sky behind maple ablaze with Fall Color

Today I went to my granddaughters last soccer game of the season and boy what a difference in the weather.  When I downloaded the images from the soccer game Iwas pleased to find this image of a maple tree ablaze with color against a beautiful blue afternoon Fall sky.  I had taken this image a few weeks ago when I was driving down Ravenna Blvd and it reminded me how incredible the Fall season has been this year.  Of course with the end of the season comes the beginning of the Great Fall rake up and garden winterization. Happy gardening all!

Faces Found in Nature

Heart shaped eye 530x333 Faces Found in Nature

Hidden face

Hidden Faces are everywhere in nature and  if you look very closely you can see them.  I have this habit when I am beach combing on the Oregon Coast to look for heart shaped rocks.  When I came across this rock it reminded me of a dinosaur head with a heart shaped eye.  Needless to say it now graces my garden with a reminder of a wonderful trip to Manzanita Oregon.
